Some notes on stats:

All players online have 100 health. Keep this in mind when looking at guns damage stat. Damage stat is in terms of "per bullet."

Rate of fire has 2 meanings depending on the gun. For automatics its simple Rounds Per Second (RPS), for semi-automatics the number refers to the amount of time it takes the gun to chamber another bullet.

Standing Accuracy Modifier is how much the bullet will stray when you fire it while standing. When crouched and unmoving, the first shot is 100% accurate. When you stand up an accuracy modifier is applied that refers to degrees off that the shot will be. For example, a standing accuracy modifier of 0.3 means that when you shoot while standing, the bullets trajectory will change 0.3 degrees per meter it travels. A very handy thing to know.

Zoom look refers to how much the aiming slows down when you are aiming down the sights. Zoom movement tells by how much your movement speed is reduced by when aiming down the sights.

Range is how far a gun is effective. Past its maximum range the bullets move and fall dramatically and their damage is reduced, so really just don't bother trying to use a gun past its effective range. Range is measured in meters in this game, and a good way to help guess how far away someone is is by the radar. On the radar there are 3 lines. radiating from the center. The first line from your character marks 12 meters, the second 24, and the outer rim is 30 meters.......or at least thats the way it was at launch, anyway. In the 1.24 patch they increased the area shown in your radar by an unspecified amount. I'm going to assume they upped it to 45 meters for the sake of simplicity.

Oh, and a bullet to the head in Warzone will always kill, no matter what gun fired it. In campaign headshots have a 5x damage multiplier.

As for melee, the first strike (Forehand) always does 33 damage. The second strike (backhand) does 70 damage. Keep that in mind.

So, on to the guns!

StA-18 Semi-automatic Pistol

The standard Hig pistol that you start with. Once you get the M4 you'll probably never use this gun again, except for when your primary gun is the StA-14 (then you should use this gun) or when playing a custom game.

This gun is awesome. 2 bullets kills any living thing that moves in this game. Its great for taking out turrets and bots, and is the most reliable sidearm you can get. You unlock it by getting 8 Pistol Specialist ribbons.

I love this gun. Its an all-purpose gun that will never do you wrong. There really isn't a situation where this gun won't excel.

I love this gun too, but its more situational than it nemesis the M82. Since it has no iron sight and more recoil than the M82 most people dismiss it as a worse gun. But its scoped recoil is far less than the M82s and its firing rate is much faster. Coupled with its larger magazine and reserve, this gun is an extremely viable contender that actually surpasses the M82 in usefulness on smaller, more indoors maps. Its also much more newb friendly as it is much, much easier to spray and pray successfully with this gun than the M82. Don't ask me why, but newer players tend to find this gun a lot easier to use, especially if they're used to CoD or Halo.

This gun is HARD to use, but once you master it, its beastly. Just try not to use it while standing up or moving. Its large accuracy modifier makes it much harder to hit targets while you're moving than other guns.

VC32 Sniper Rifle

When scoped, the barrel of the gun moves according to how much your hand moves. It will also shake if an explosion happens within 1000 miles of your location. If this gun lands a bullet, the target will die. Unless its an assault, in which case you should have gotten a headshot, but since there's no auto aim you didn't, so now you have to fire again to get rid of their last 50 health. No standing accuracy modifier means that its pointless for snipers to crouch when they have cloaking on and aren't moving.

Initial stats make this gun seem like an StA52 only better in every way that counts. Except that its ridiculous accuracy modifier and pitiful range that only barely manages to best the shotgun makes this gun nearly useless if the enemy isn't within spitting distance. Oh, and unless you sneak up behind somebody, in a face to face this gun WILL lose to a 52 or an 82 if there's any reasonable distance between you. Unless you get a headshot, which considering how many bullets this thing spits out and the fact that its recoil climbs straight up, is actually pretty likely.

M224-1A LMG

This gun isn't seen too often because its magazine size is so much smaller than its hig nemesis. But it does have one thing over the competition: IRON SIGHTS. The hig LMG doesn't have an aim mode to speak of, so this gun is much better for larger maps and laying down serious cover fire for your guys. Just remember to crouch.

You know those Hig turrets during the campaign? This is one of those that you can carry around. Except for its complete omission of any meaningful way to zoom in, this gun is pretty much the perfect LMG. Just remember to crouch and burst fire.

This gun is also hard to use. Max damage on a direct hit is 65. The farther you are off, the less damage it does, as noted in the stats above. Its max blast radius is 5 meters. The special sight it is simple: Top V is where the 'nade lands when your target is within 10 meters. First line down is 20 meters, second is 30, last is 40. Beyond that just eyeball it.

You never see this gun online. I don't know why. People just don't like it for some reason. It might be the fact that there is a delay after the rocket leaves before the jet starts, which when couples with its smaller blast radius than the VC9 means that getting cheap kills is harder. Or it could be that in heavy games this rocket will lag the hell out and move incredibly leisurely through the air at a weird angle before exploding. I don't know. What I do know is that this gun is the only way to go to easily take out air bots in one shot, and as such when I make custom games I disable the VC9 and leave this one on. Surprisingly people would rather use the M327 than this, though.

Thats all, folks! I'm afraid I don't have online stats for the VC1 Flamethrower or VC21 Bolt Gun.

How to Improve the font quality on your LCD screen ?

This is only for Windows (XP and after) PC's.

How do you improve the quality of the font's on your LCD screen ? This works for both the LCD screen of your monitor and your laptop.

This technology for smoothing the font's on your LCD monitor is called ClearType and is present on Windows PC's (XP, Vista & Windows 7).

From Wikipedia :

ClearType is a trademark for Microsoft's implementation of subpixel rendering technology. ClearType attempts to improve the appearance of text on certain types of computer display screens by sacrificing color fidelity for additional intensity variation. This trade-off is asserted to work well on LCD flat panel monitors.

There is a small utility to start and tune ClearType on your PC by Microsoft. You can download it from the Microsoft webpage here.

All instructions to install and use this ClearType tuner are on the webpage from where you downloaded Microsoft's powertoy for ClearType. Use the Wizard, its the easiest and best way to tune ClearType on your PC's LCD screen.

How to find your Asus EeePC's Serial number ?

You love your little Asus EeePC, but now after using it lots, something's wrong and you require to send it to the service center. You need to login on their website with the service request. It is asking you for your EeePC's serial number. Now what ?

Overturn your EeePC. There will be a sticker with with the Serial Number (SN:). That is your serial number. But if like mine, with time, the Serial Number on my EeePC has disappeared, then what ?!

Instead of my Serial Number, the sticker has become blank ! Shame on you Asus for using disappearing ink for the serial number.

If you still have your EeePC package box, then the Serial Number (SN:) is printed on the box. If you don't have the EeePC packing box then you can check the Invoice of your EeePC. The EeePC serial number will be mentioned in your Invoice.

If you don't have the Invoice or the package box and your EeePC's serial number sticker is blank...then tough luck...there is nothing you can do........

Joking ! :-)

There is one last way you can find out your Computers manufacturing serial number.

This will only work if you have your original battery. Remove your battery. Under the battery you will find a sticker (hopefully as it is hidden inside, the number would not have disappeared with wear and tear). Mine was in mint condition. It is the one starting with SN:

Greatest Strategy Games for the Sony PSP

I love Strategy games and I love my Sony PSP (Play Station Portable). I own it ever since Sony first introduced the PSP. So, I usually buy all Strategy games that come out for the PSP. Some are hopeless, some are fair and some are good. But here I want to list the 4 best Strategy games for the Sony PSP that I have played. I hope this will help Strategy game fans who own a PSP.

So, here they are in reverse order :

@ Number 4 - Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords

A unique game which blends Bejeweled and a RPG (Role Playing Game) into one. A brilliant idea for a game and suited wonderfully for the Sony PSP's screen.

Pros :

Very addictive and real fun to play.

Cons :

No Online play.

@ Number 3 - Military History : Commander : Europe at War.

The only true War Game you can play on the Sony PSP. It's a superb strategy game involving the Allies & Axis in the Europe theater of War during World War II. Great fun to play with if you are a WW2 gaming fan. There is no other game in its genre on the PSP.

Pros :

Great game-play and fun to play real WW2 scenarios.

Cons :
A bug in this game (though does not spoil the gameplay), which cannot be corrected by any patch.
Takes a bit getting used to as the area of play is large and the PSP's screen is small.
The game AI is stupid at times.
No online play.

A brilliant little Strategic RPG (Role Playing Game). An excellent story line, superb graphics and even greater game-play. You won't be able to stop playing this great game.

What can I say ? I have been playing this game online for over 3 years and I haven't come across a more satisfying Strategy game on the PSP or on the PC. This game has been made for the PSP and the graphics are good and sound is good. But the thing that stands out is the online gameplay. The options for online game-play are great. If you are a Strategy fan and have a PSP then I would say BUY IT !

Pros :

Simple to learn, difficult to master. It is like playing Chess on steroids.
Brilliant online play.

Cons :

Stupid AI

Games (Windows) that play great on a Netbook

I have written this article to list games that play perfectly on the 1024x600 resolution of a Netbook. There are many games which work but with lots of efforts and wastage of time and then too they don't work perfectly on a Netbook. Therefore, I am only listing games here that I have played on my Netbook and work great on the 1024x600 resolution.

Games which pass the following criteria only are listed here :

They have to be top games and classics with a good score on Gamespot.
Have not to be very old games.
Have to play on the full screen of the Netbook, real full screen or stretched.
Should play at native specs of a Netbook - 1GB RAM, 1600Mz. No stuttering and a good FPS rate.
I have played them on my Netbook.

Unreal Tournament runs great on a Netbook. It runs full 1024x600 with real widescreen, looks crackers and runs smooth as a baby's bottom on the native specs....1GB, 1600Mz speed. Install the latest patch 436 to play without the CD. This is one of the very few games which play true widescreen 1024x600. Check here how to play true widescreen. The best FPS on the EeePC.

Baldurs Gate II plays at a good 35FPS and at full true widescreen of the Netbook.

Warcraft III after installing the latest 1.24b patch it plays without a CD check. You can play it at the highest video settings but with will only play at 800x600 full-screen though stretched.

How to optimize Firefox for a 1024x600 Netbook screen.

You have a 24" LCD monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution, now you buy a Netbook with a 1024x600 resolution. How do you ensure that when you cruise the Net, your spanking new Netbook does nearly as well as your 24" LCD monitor ?

I own a Asus EeePC 1000H Netbook and use Firefox 3.5.3, which is the current latest version. All the Addon extensions below, work with this version. This article is relevant for all Netbooks, Windows or Linux, with 1024x600 screen resolution.

You may download the latest version of Mozilla Firefox from here.

My Objective for modding the Firefox browser on my Netbook was to :

Maximizing realestate,
Maximizing functionality,
Increased readability,
Security & to an extent good looks.

This is how my Firefox browser looks with all the below Addon extensions.

I could have pressed F11 to get the full screen but I prefer having my icons, toolbars & status bar on the screen while I roam the Net.

Important Note : Some Addon Extensions aren't yet authorized as compatible with Firefox 3.5.x by Mozilla but they can be used by disabling the Firefox Addon compatibility check. I have tested all such Addons extensively and they work without any problems.

When you disable Firefox's compatibility check, you will get this message when you open the Add-ons box. Don't worry, all is good.

From the top of the screen, I have just two compacted tool-bars with almost all the functionality in them.

Addon Extensions to maximize Realestate and functionality :

Tiny Menu - Replaces the standard menu with a tiny menu popup. You can move your Firefox menu onto your Navigation Bar thus reducing one toolbar.
Smart Bookmarks Bar - Hides bookmarks names in the bookmark bar but shows the names when you move your mouse over the bookmark icons, therefore, you can pack more bookmark icons on the same toolbar.
Favicon Picker - This extension allows you to replace bookmark icons using the properties dialog. You can also replace blank favicons with any one you want. Good site for downloading and replacing favicons in your bookmark bar : Favicons 1, Favicons 2
Tab Mix Plus - TAB browsing with an added boost - you get many more options to play around with TAB's. I specially like the Open-tab-when-the-tab-gets-the-mouse-focus option and the Open-in-new-Tab-for-links-outside-the-website one.
Stop-or-Reload Button - A combined Stop-or-Reload. This reduces one Icon on the navigation toolbar.
Hide Chrome v1.1.3 - Simple extension to hide window's chrome with toolbar button or ctrl+F2 keyshortcut. To change keyshortcut, use the keyconfig extension. Hide Chrome extension adds also two new buttons - Close Application and Minimize. (this extension is Experimental right now but works well with Firefox 3.5)
Fission - Fission combines address bar and progress bar (Safari style). This makes the progress bar more visible and allows for a nice visual effect. This allows you to hide your status bar and still get to see the progress bar.
Organize Status Bar 0.6.3 - This extension will enable you to organize your status bar icons. You can now rearrange or remove any item (icon or text) in the Firefox status bar. If your status bar is full and cluttered like mine was, give this a try.

Addon to Increase Readability on your Netbook :

No Squint v2.0b6 - Manages site-specific full page and text zoom levels. A really useful Addon for Netbooks as it zooms the Web-pages with your default zoom or site-specific zoom. Use it to fit-to-width websites which have a higher horizontal resolution than 1024 pixels and zoom websites whose text is too small for the Netbook screen. One of my most favorite Addons. (This Addon is a Beta version but works well with Firefox 3.5.3 after disabling the Addon compatibility check)
SmoothWheel - smooths the two-finger / mouse-wheel scrolling on your Netbook.

Other very useful Addon Extensions for your Netbook :

FlagFox - Displays and flag depicting the location of the current web-server.
Xmarks Bookmark Synchronizer - Synchronizes your bookmarks across machines.
StumbleUpon - Discovers web sites based on your interests, learns what you like and brings you more. You may note that this adds a toolbar to your browser hence reducing the realestate on your screen. Despite that, I use this a lot. I just "hide" this tool bar whenever I am not using it.
